Judy – to Candice Mingo re the She Oak massacre outside Mordialloc Sailing Club. Five trees to replace the destroyed tree. Judy and I subsequently met Candice on the foreshore and she reported that the trees had been planted. Candice reported that Council now have seeds gathered after the destruction of Groves Reserve.

Annual General Meeting

To be held on Wednesday Dec 2nd, Venue?
Judy will not be taking on the role of President
Bronwen will not be taking on the role of Secretary.
Brian will not be continuing the role of Treasurer, but will instruct the next Treasurer on preparing simple financial statements and pass on historical accounts files.

Council Meetings

Draft Planning Scheme review by Council on the State Planning Scheme ends on Wednesday September 24.
Council is establishing a Tree Planting Panel for 4 years. Who will be part of this panel?
The Victorian Government are cost cutting on local services such as libraries.

Bi monthly meeting

A motion was put to – Change MBCL monthly meetings to bi – monthly meetings.
Motion was passed.
Judy will stay on as President until the end of 2026.
For important issues Committee will meet or email to be used for short term actions.
Members are asked to send in reports in a WORD document and Bronwen will put them in a Newsletter.

Council Update

Food trucks. Applications closed on May 31st. It is proposed that food trucks and ‘wellbeing places’ be allowed to operate in Kingston. This includes areas near the foreshore. Concerns were voiced regarding parking, frequency and commercialisation of our open spaces.
There were rather a lot of applications to remove canopy trees. RW to check if there is a requirement to replace or not.

Council to support Edithvale public Golf Course with a grant.
Council are selling off 3 properties including 2 Scout Halls.

Rossdale Golf Course

Committee continue to investigate. So still waiting for outcome.

Council Update

Learmonth’s Reserve Thomsons Rd nominated and accepted as a Botanical Garden.
Many canopy trees on private land given permits to remove. Need to keep track of this.

Level Crossing Removal Project – Mordialloc Railway precinct

On behalf of various community groups our members of the stakeholders group were asked to pitch for the BIOSIS team as they wrote the Environmental Management Plan to manage the revegetation of Groves Reserve.

Peter Scullin Reserve

Areas where vegetation has been removed will be replanted. Judy to write to Emily Boucher and also refer to the damaged Casuarina tree at Mordialloc Sailing Club.

Rossdale Golf Course

Letters to be written to the Planning Minister and local member supporting the Save Rossdale, Protect our Environment and Open Spaces Group.

Council Update

Questions were limited to those attending Council Meetings. This has changed.
Sadly, Tess Law from Malaleuca Ward has resigned. There will be a by-election.

Level Crossing Removal Project – Mordialloc Railway precinct

Mordialloc Railway Station to open on Thursday May 21st.
Planting plans should be presented to Stakeholders. Is it possible that J Yukovic can contribute to the restoration of Groves Reserve? Again Bruce Cutts, Travis Howell and Judy Fields will ask for the Groves Reserve seeds to be given to the Kingston Council’s nursery as the Council will be managing the reserve at the next LXR meeting.

Reply to our letter to Emily Boucher re understorey vegetation removal from Peter Scullin Reserve.
Suggested we respond again citing the Council’s Biodiversity Strategy.

Report from Bruce Cutts from Environment Victoria

Bruce and others have met with Oscar Craig/Grant the senior advisor to the Environment Minister. Such topics as the reform of the Wildlife Act 1975, The Great Outdoors Taskforce and the Trust for Nature funding were discussed. Also the Western Plains Grassland- 15,000 hectares is being bought by State Government for protection and conservation. Logging being done under the guise of strategic fire breaks.

Rossdale Golf Course

The state’s Priority Standing Advisory Committee report has been released and it appears the news isn’t good for the retention of the golf course.
The Committee recommends the proponent does the following and more:

  • Review and update biodiversity, tree and cultural heritage reports.
  • Finalise assessment on contamination, hydrology, traffic and servicing.
  • Ensure the Ramsar wetlands are protected.

The Save Rossdale group have a big fight ahead of them.

Rossdale Golf Course

It appears the Minister for Planning has handed control over to Council. Keep watching.

Council Update

Permit issued for removal of vegetation for a boardwalk near bird hide at Edithvale Seaford Wetlands.
Accepted the petition for the Le Bon collection to be housed in a vacation kindergarten. The collection has dwindled from 1300 down to 231, which council have now.

Going on a walking tour to view the present works at Mordialloc. They are open to recommendations.
