An official warning has been issued to foreshore residents from Edithvale to Bonbeach warning them not to drink the ground water from their bores because it contains PFAS (poly-fluoroalkyl) an extremely cancerous chemical.

Toilet Block at Mordialloc Foreshore

As part of “improvements” to local parks Council intends to install “new, accessible toilet facilities” at Mordialloc foreshore near the pier and promenade. The design of this large, brick industrial looking building is out of character and will dominate the area.

See Level Rise

Dr Kathleen MacInnes CSIRO, recently warned yet again that with a sea level rise of 0.8m properties in Mordialloc, Aspendale and Edithvale will be subject to flooding following severe storm surges. Warnings of flooding in these suburbs were issued by Chelsea Councillors Les Williams and Jack Cuthbertson in their Chelsea Greenhouse Strategy Report, November, 1990. Dr McInnes produced two reports after severe storm events and flooding around Port Phillip Bay in 1994, especially in Mordialloc. “Extreme events and the Impact of Climate Change in Victoria’s Coastline.” EPA publication 488, June 1996.

Clarinda Recycling Facility Advisory Committee

MBCL was one of four local environment groups who supported Kingston Council in their opposition to the possible15 years extension to the occupation of this facility in Kingston’s Green Wedge. Our submission, along with that of the other groups, was as always, ably presented by a committee member well practised in the art of appearing at VCAT in defence of the environment!   So far there has been no decision but policies concerning the management of dust from the facility have been issued.

Bacchus March

Residents are fighting to try to prevent a local quarry being filled with soil contaminated with PFAS. The soil was removed from tunnelling for the Metro tunnel and is presenting a disposal problem for the developers.
